Family Health Workshops
This Public Health Education initiative plans to build capacity in schools to help youngsters and their parents develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices needed to achieve and maintain health and succeed academically, in their personal lives, and in the workplace.
Objective
Improve the health and well-being of schoolchildren and their families, and to address the evolving needs of the schools.
Topics Covered:
1. The “what, how and where” of healthy eating habits (in terms of food and nutrition)
2. Super-sized America: dealing with the obesity epidemic (in regards to lifestyle and exercise)
3. Tackling the “silent killers”: diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, and heart disease
4. Understanding and protecting ourselves against sexually transmitted diseases
5. No Brainers: the effects of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs in our bodies
6. Understanding transmission and prevention of common infections in the
school setting
Duration: 6 workshops of an hour and a half each.
Language: Given in English and Spanish.
Capacity: No limit to number of attendants.
